"My wife is 18" stars Ekin Cheng as the 30-year old grad student Cheung Sahp Saam, who just happens to be married to 18-year old Ma Yo-Yo played by Charlene Choi. I'm not a big fan of Ekin Cheng. He seems to be too arrogant at times, and I'm pretty sure he's just as bad in real life. So why do I still buy his movies? Well let's just say that with all the talented actors moving overseas to pursue a more profitable acting career, we are left with only a few great Hong Kong actors. And then of course, there's Ekin Cheng.

Ekin may not be one of the best actors in Hong Kong, but he is quite popular in Asia. I guess alot has to do with his choice of movies. He's well known for his role as Ho Nam in the Young and Dangerous series and he recently starred in the new Running out of Time sequel with Lau Ching-Wan. His popularity level is growing really fast and it's quite possible that one day he might reach the heights of legends like Chow Yun-Fat. Only that Ekin does not share Chow Yun-Fat's charisma nor his talent.

Charlene Choi in the other hand is a blank slate for me. She's one of the lead singers for the new girl band called "Twins," which is currently one of the "It" group in China right now. She starred in recent films such as "Funeral March" and "Summer Breeze of Love" which are mediocre films at best. This movie is just as forgettable as the other two.

Charlene did a good job, and she really stole the scenes in the movie. She may not be beautiful, but she is very cute. She's the reason why I even bother to watch this movie. I figure that if the movie bombed, then at least I had the chance to see a pretty face.

The premise goes like this: Yo-Yo was raised in Hong Kong and Cheung in San Francisco. To make their grandmothers happy, they decided to get married as arranged by the two women many years ago. Yo-Yo is twelve years younger than Cheung and uncertain of what she want with her future. Cheung is a grad student in England who has just broken up with his long-time girlfriend. Cheung and Yo-Yo agreed that they will only be married on paper and that after one year, they will get a divorce. (We all know how this story will end)

The tone for this movie is rather immature and geared only for the teen audience. The movie had some funny moments in it and some pretty decent camera shots. Like I had said before, it's a forgettable film but I still believe that it is worth watching.

Overall Score: B-
