Korean Television Drama: Full
House
(16 episodes)

In the effort to catch up with all the Korean
series that I missed, I thought that it'll be best that I focus on one
actor/ actress at a time. I was impressed with Song Hye Gyo's performance
in Hotelier, and since she's the lead actress of "Full House,"
I decided to watch it. The series "Full House" stars Song
Hye Gyo, Jung Ji Hoon, Han Eun Jung, and Kim Sung Soo.
THE STORY:
Poor Han Ji Eun (Song Hye Gyo). After coming
back from a trip to China, Han Ji Eun discovers that her house has just
been sold (without her knowledge) to famous actor Lee Young Jae (Jung
Ji Hoon). Now homeless, she strikes a deal with Lee Young Jae: in order
for her to stay at the house, she agrees to serve as his personal maid
for the duration of the time.
Circumstances led them to strike another deal,
one that involves a contract marriage. If Han Ji Eun accepts to marry
Lee Young Jae under false pretense for 6 months, he will return the
house to her as alimony. They must appear like a happy couple in the
face of the public, but in reality they despise one another. Under the
terms of the contract, she still have to continue with all the housework
which is quite unbearable if you are serving under Lee Young Jae. He's
mean, overbearing, rude, spoiled, and selfish. And for some odd reason,
Han ji Eun starts falling in love with him. I can't fathom the reason
why.
Throw in Yoo Min Hyuk (Kim Sung Soo) and Kang
Hae Won (Jung Ji Hoon) into the mix and things start to get even more
complicated. Like all Korean dramas there's always a love triangle.
In this case, it's more like a love square. Ha Ji Eun is in love with
Lee Young Jae, but he's in love with Kang Hae Won, who is in love with
Yoo Min Hyuk, who is only interested in Han Ji Eun. Like I said before:
a love square.
What I like about the show:
For obvious reasons, I like the show very much
because of Song Hye Gyo. In my previous review of Hotelier, I mentioned
that Song Hye Gyo was considered the "ideal girlfriend" for
many asian men. People love her in "Autumn in My Heart" and
in "All in." Instead of watching the two earlier series that
launched her career, I opt to watch "Full house," her more
recent 2004 released series first. I didn't understand what the appeal
was early on in the show. Since the series is categorized as a comedy,
her character was quite annoying. But gradually you'll start warming
up to her. She's so pure an innocent that you would want to go and protect
her. She's also very beautiful. Her tears felt so genuine that I must
say that my eyes watered a bit. Good stuff here.
Another reason why I enjoyed the show is because
"Full House" is a very funny series. It's light hearted and
not depressing at all. Once in awhile I get tired of watching all these
tragic Korean shows and need to watch something light to cheer me up.
"Full House" is that kind of show and it will brighten your
day.
What I do not like about the show:
I do not like the male lead of the show: Jung
Ji Hoon. If I thought that Bae Yong Jun (from Winter Sonata) was a sissy,
this guy is an even bigger sissy. It just disgust me to see a man wear
all these girly outfits. I guess the way he dress may be the norm for
many Asian celebrities, but in the United States he's just asking to
get beat up. It's very hard to like his character, but then again that
may be the writer's intentions. He really played the role of a scumbag
very well. Fortunately Song Hye Gyo provided a good balance to the character
and in some odd way, they have some chemistry together.
How do I rate the show:
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Very hilarious!! Aza, Aza FIGHTING!!
