THE STORY:

All About Eve stars Chae Rim, Jang Dong Gun, Kim So Yeon, and Han Jae Suk, and is about the lives of two young women competing to become the best newswomen. Sun Mi (Chae Rim) was brought up in a comfortable environment where her father devotes all his attention to Sun Mi. Young Mi (Kim So Yeon) however, grew up in much harsher condition: her mother abandoned her at the age of six and her father is an abusive alcoholic. The two lead actresses are as different as day and night. While Sun Mi is very cheerful and loving to others, Young Mi is very bitter, untrusting, and very jealous of Sun Mi’s fortune. Both Young Mi and Sun Mi attend the same university and are in the same program of study. The two compete with each other in everything: from school, work, and romance. The constant rivalry between these two actresses is the focus of this show.

What I like about the show:

The actors and actresses. Chae Rim’s smile is so infectious that whenever she’s onscreen, I couldn’t help but smile as well. The dynamics between her and Kim So Yeon was played out nicely. Though So Yeon is the prettier of the two, you’ll get drawn to Chae Rim’s personality and cheerful disposition. In my opinion, I liked So Yeon more. She’s definitely very nasty in the show, but I find her determination to succeed and her do-whatever-it-takes attitude to be quite admirable. Lead male star Jang Dong Gun did fine as the typical, unrealistic boyfriend. But I don’t really think that he added much to the show. I still think that he’s a good alternative from all these sissy men that populate Korean television dramas. Another plus for the show is the supporting characters. However there’s a drawback to this. Many subplots were introduced for these supporting characters, but since there’s really not enough time to incorporate it all into the series, many of it was never resolved. In addition to the characters and storyline, the soundtrack of ALL ABOUT EVE was quite catchy. I especially like the theme song played by F.I.N.K.L.

What I didn’t like about the show:

I didn’t like the ending for Kim So Yeon’s character. Other than that, she show was fine. It’s not as addictive as Winter Sonata, but I believe that ALL ABOUT EVE had a better storyline.

How do I rate this show?
